Douglas (Doug) Lord Morris

May 18, 1949 ~ April 25, 2022 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Tribute

Douglas (Doug) Lord Morris, 72, of Youngsville, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Transitions Hospice Care from pancreatic cancer to the strains of “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes.

Doug was born on May 18, 1949, in Miami, FL, to the late Harold Lloyd Morris and Leonora Galbraith Morris.  He spent most of his childhood in Sao Paulo, Brazil, until he returned to the U.S. to attend college at Duke University in Durham, NC. Doug was a proud member of the Duke community. He was a member of the Varsity Soccer team for the Blue Devils and majored in a rigorous engineering program. He graduated from Duke in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from AlliedSignal as a Mechanical Engineer. During his married life and employment, he lived in many locations before settling in Youngsville, including Philadelphia, PA, Chapel Hill, NC, Myrtle Beach, SC, Kernersville, NC, Winston-Salem, NC, and Greensboro, NC.

During his final years, Doug enjoyed spending time with his dog, Sugar, at Flaherty Dog Park where he and Sugar made many friends. He loved going to the beach, thrift stores, listening to music, and attending meetings with several support groups. He loved taking thousands of photos of family and friends and displaying them around his home. His ultimate favorite activity, however, was spending time with Kay, Carly, and Blake, his most loved and adored grandchildren.

Doug’s kindness and gentle nature were well known, and his sweet smile and affection for people and dogs alike were endearing qualities. Despite his illness and its diagnosis, he never lost his upbeat attitude. He loved God and he loved his family and friends. He took great joy in making others happy.

Doug is survived by his sons, Ryan and David Morris; Ryan’s wife, Lisa Flint-Morris and their children (Doug’s very special grandchildren) Kay, Carly, and Blake Morris; his sisters, Anne Folkins of Winston-Salem, Lynne Fernandez and husband, Eric Fernandez of San Juan, Puerto Rico; his nieces, Kimberly Folkins and Crysta Fernandez-Ramirez, and nephew, Brian Folkins. Doug is also survived by his devoted girlfriend, Mary McCartan Konwinski, and his assistant and close friend, Beth Butler.

Doug was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Murphy Morris, mother of Ryan and David, and his loving second wife, Camille Blackburn Morris.

A memorial service in celebration of Douglas Morris’s life will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 3:00 PM at Wake Forest United Methodist Church, 905 S Main St, Wake Forest, NC 27587.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pawfect Match Rescue (www.pawfectmatch.org), where Doug adopted his dog, Sugar.
