Helen Britt Dowdy

Helen Britt Dowdy, 87, passed away on November 8, 2017 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She was born March 10, 1930 in Macon, Georgia to the late Manly Calvin and Eriel Marie Merriman Britt.

 Ms. Dowdy was a graduate of Mars Hill College which led her to a lengthy and accomplished career as Assistant to the President of the Department of Community Colleges, in which she was recognized for her attention to detail, and grace under pressure. Her dedication and hard work helped her become a leader in her career and even a recipient of the I.E. Ready award. Following her retirement from the state government, Ms. Dowdy became the first full-time Executive Director of the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees.

In addition to her professional life, Ms. Dowdy was a devoted wife to her husband, the late Lemuel S. Dowdy for 35 years as well as a loving mother to her two sons. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, NC. for many years and served on the church committee.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 18 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 600 Walnut St. Cary, NC 27511.

 Helen is survived by her sons, Donald Dowdy and wife, Annette, David Dowdy and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Jennifer Carter and Jacinda Navarro, one great-grandchild, Emma Marie; and her beloved grand-furbabies Katie and Sam.
