Laura Irene Sienkiewicz

Laura Irene Sienkiewicz passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022 after enduring a lengthy battle with both Alzheimer’s and heart disease.  She was 93 years young.  Laura may have left this world, but fond memories of her compassionate and gentle nature will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Laura was born Laura Irene Castagna in King’s County, New York on May 5, 1928 to parents Anna and Andrew Castagna.  As one of nine siblings, Laura learned at an early age how to pitch in, lend a hand, and make do-all valuable life skills.  She married the love of her life, Henry Joseph Sienkiewicz in 1949, and they called New York, Florida, and later, North Carolina, all home.

Laura loved life’s simple pleasures.  She was known for her amazing cooking skills, and when Laura was in the kitchen, everyone knew to stay out of her way!  Laura was also an avid crafter and seamstress. 

She is survived by her eldest daughter, Catherine Fletcher and husband Bob, her son, Thomas Sienkiewicz and wife Barbara, and her youngest daughter, Christine Rant and husband Peter.  Laura is also survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

As per Laura’s final wishes, Laura’s ashes will be scattered alongside those belonging to her late husband, Henry Joseph.  A memorial gathering will follow at a later date.
