Alex Nicholas Cosmidis, 90, of Raleigh, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born September 22, 1928 in Fayetteville, NC to the late Nicholas Cosmidis and Paraskevi (Polizos) Cosmidis.
He was predeceased by his wife Martha Bond Cosmidis and his brother George N. Cosmidis.
Alex's life revolved around his two passions: family and baseball. His career spanned over 50 years, including playing in the minor leagues, managing teams across North Carolina, and working as a scout for the California Angels and the Chicago White Sox.
Alex is survived by his two daughters, Patti Escala and husband, Joel of Raleigh, Sandi Grove of Arlington, VA; a son, Nick Cosmidis of Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Rebekah and Hannah Escala of Raleigh, NC and Sierra Grove of Spokane, WA; a sister, Mary Vourlas of Norfolk, VA; a cousin, Jeanne (Polizos) Ross of Norfolk, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Wake Forest United Methodist Church, 905 S. Main St., Wake Forest. The family will visit with friends following the service at the church. Interment will follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
