Tribute

On Thursday March 16, 2023, at 9:53 a.m., Alexander “Alex” Washington died peacefully after a brief battle with an aggressive form of liver cancer. His wife and children were by his side.

Alex was born on April 10, 1972, the oldest son of the late Brenda Washington. He grew up in Brooklyn New York with his two siblings, brother James and sister Aisha. As a young teen, Alex attended Prospect Heights High School where he graduated in June 1990. Later that year he enlisted in the United States Navy Corps. There he excelled as an Aviation Ordnanceman in the Commander Strike Fighter Wing U.S. Pacific Fleet, Squadron 97, where he had the responsibility of loading bombs onto planes.

After leaving the Navy, Alex pursued his entrepreneurial callings. He initially was employed at a nail salon, becoming a well-established Nail Technician. It was there he met his good friends Vonette and Rhonda. He later became a personal trainer where he motivated others to focus on their health and wellness. Eventually he found his true passion as a Designer and he and his wife went on to establish a highly successful business, Tranquil Designs, LLC.

In February of 1990, Alex welcomed into the world his first-born daughter, Tatianna. It was then in May of 1997 when he met the love of his life, Deri. Within three months, they were married on August 27, 1997. This union created a loving family of five beautiful children: Tatianna, Dirnelle, Diamond, Drew, and Dazia. In June of 1998, Alex and Deri welcomed into the family another beautiful daughter, Alexis.

Alex eventually became the proud grandfather of eleven, with three grandchildren soon to enter this world. His grandchildren will best remember their “PopPop” for the time they spent together watching movies, going to parks, spending time at the pool, and playing games.

Alex enjoyed movies, exercising, cooking, travel, fashion, and design. His wonderful sense of humor, his loving spirit, his many talents, and his numerous interests will be sadly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

Alex leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife Deri, his children Tatianna, Dirnelle, Diamond married to Jarvis, Drew, Dazia and partner Moses, and Alexis. He leaves behind his grandchildren Jayden, Jaysen, Jaylen, Savion, Jalil, Aiden, Troy, twins Maya and Machai, Leianna, and Aaliyah. He is also survived by his brother James married to Andrea, and sister Aisha; as well as uncles Elbert, Matthew married to Celeste, and Joseph; aunts Joyce and Ellen; nephews James Jr., Messi, and Enzo; nieces Jackie and Serenity; cousins Matia, Jermaine, Jessica, David Jr., Jasmine, Jarell, Jennifer, Elbert III, and Marsha; along with a host of other family and friends.
