Alison H Mount

April 30, 1934 ~ May 12, 2018 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Tribute

Alison Hamilton Mount met Jesus face-to-face on Saturday, May 12th, 2018 following a courageous journey with leukemia over the last two months. However, Alison was truly celebrated by her family on her 84th birthday on April 30th!

Alison and her sister, Connie, were born and raised in Fieldsboro, NJ, to Frederick Dalton & Alice Edith Brettell Hamilton. She was surrounded with love from close-by family and enjoyed her friends at school and Fieldsboro United Methodist Church.

Alison always wanted to be a nurse and graduated from Mercer Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton in 1954. She continued as an RN at Mercer Hospital for 35 years before retiring. She even met her husband, Richard Leon Mount, at Mercer while caring for his mother. Rich and Alison were married after a short three-month courtship on April 9th, 1955. They lived in Trenton for 8 years and welcomed two sons, Jim and David, before building a house and moving to Columbus, NJ. Alison raised her family there until moving to Raleigh in 2010 once her great grandchildren began to be born in North Carolina!

Alison enjoyed crossword puzzles, painting, playing bridge, cross-stitch, knitting, decorating homemade cakes and chocolate candy, as well as reading one to three books at a time! She was quite the hostess in her home, whether it was for book or bridge club, Sunday dinner, a P.E.O. meeting or the annual Christmas Eve party in Columbus. Even in Raleigh Alison was known for her hospitality, whether preparing dinner for neighbors in The Enclave or hosting a tea in her home for the sweet members of the Ruth Bible Sunday School from Bay Leaf Baptist.

She loved to travel and the State of Maine became a favorite for she and her Rich. They bought a “camp” in Portage Lake in 1989 and spent every summer there after Alison’s retirement. She quickly made lifetime friends in Maine and has relished those happy memories including welcoming her four grandsons with dozens of chocolate chip cookies when they came for a visit!

Alison was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her two sons and their families, as well as her sister and family: Son, James Richard & Amy Mount of Raleigh, NC, along with Stephen Hamilton & Robin Mount of Edenton, NC, plus great granddaughters, Addison and Annabeth; and Tyler Willis & Rachel Mount, also of Raleigh, NC, along with great grandsons, Leland, Grafton and Haddon; Son, David Lawrence & Sheryl Mount, as well as their sons, Joshua David and Jeremiah David of Mount Holly, NJ; and Alison’s sister, Constance & William Lloyd of El Cajon, CA and their nine children and their families.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Bay Leaf Baptist Church and will celebrate Alison’s life at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27614.
