Allan Baker Bonner, Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 30th, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. Allan considered himself the poster boy for the power of prayer. As a result of many prayers, he felt his life was extended to be with us.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. Allan is survived by his wife Linda Dedrick Bonner, his three children, daughter Kathy Bonner, son Allan (Skip) Baker Bonner III, and daughter Christine Bonner Betts, their spouses, Tracey Lanier, Lisa Bonner, Jim Betts and three grandchildren Ashley Bonner, James Betts and Christopher Betts as well as his brother Charles Bonner and Allan’s nephew Charles (Chuck) Bonner Jr.
Allan was born in Memphis, TN, son of Allan Baker Bonner Sr. and Sally Jordan Bonner. He lived his childhood in Hertford, NC where he developed his passion for cars. He attended UNC Chapel Hill and then began his 30 year career at IBM where he met his wife of 38 years, Linda.
He will be remembered for his love of family, his love of friends, his love of cars, especially Streetrods, racing and his brotherhood as a Mason.
Allan was a past Master of the James B. Green Lodge #735, Raleigh, NC and past Worthy Patron of James B. Green #352 Order of the Eastern Star.
The family will receive friends and extended family on Sunday June 2nd at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St. Wake Forest, NC 27587. The visitation will be from 1-2pm, the service will begin in the Chapel at 2:00 pm immediately followed by Masonic Rites. A reception will directly follow the service at the J.J. Crowder #745 Masonic Lodge at 9920 Falls of Neuse Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the REX Hospital Cancer Center and\or to the North Carolina Eastern Star Service Dog Project.
