On the evening of September 16th, 2017, Alva made a peaceful journey home to be with her Lord and saviour Jesus Christ while she was surrounded by her family. Alva was born in Chatham County to Olivia (Pendergrass) and Lucian Clark and was one of nine children. She was truly a devoted wife and mother of four children.
She is preceded in death by her husband, E. Lee Smith Jr, of 35 years and father of her four children, and her oldest son, Gary L. Smith.
There will be a graveside service at Wake Forest Cemetery on Wednesday September 20th at 2pm.
She is survived by her husband Earl, and three children, sons Mark (& Margie) Smith of Louisburg, Bobby Smith of Raleigh, and daughter Cheryl (& Donnie) Huckabee of Kittrell, grandson Tim of Raleigh and granddaughter Melissa of Kentucky, and sister Maxine of Pittsboro, along with many nieces and newphews and cousins.
She loved everyone and was loved by everyone who knew her. She never met a stranger and put all others first above herself. She always seem to know what others needed even before they did. She loved her family and cherished the moments they were together. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke with others. She was an avid reader and loved flowers and gardening. She loved the old gospel songs and she grew up singing in her church and was once on the radio. During her life she worked in administrative roles at Hospitals and with State government. She will always be missed and forever in our hearts.
