Tribute

Amy Esther Lui Jasinski, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on May 13, 2021, in Youngsville, NC after briefly locating there from her home in Pensacola, FL. Amy was born in Peking (Beijing), China in 1932 and spent most of her childhood during war time. After resettling in Taiwan, she emigrated to the U.S. to earn a chemistry degree at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. While working in Chicago, she met her future husband, Joseph James Jasinski. Amy spent a long career as a chemist in both corporate and Federal government settings, living in Chicago, IL, Toledo, OH and locations in Northern Virginia. She retired to Pensacola in 2004.

Amy earned her skipper certification and loved sailing for many years. She also enjoyed skiing in Europe and the U.S., cooking for social gatherings, and spending time with her family and community. She was a devoted mother who valued family harmony, hospitality, and friendship with people from many cultures. She was preceded in death by her father, Gen. John Liu, her mother Lulu Hwoo Liu, her brother Raymond Liu and her former spouse Joseph Jasinski. She is survived by her remaining siblings, David Liu, Ruth Pan and Helen Ott and her children, Germaine Jasinski (Greg Kulczycki) of Leesburg, VA, John Jasinski of Birmingham, AL, Janine Costello (Thomas), of Franklinton, NC, and James Jasinski (Julie), of Birmingham, AL as well as 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 19, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 520 West Holding Avenue, Wake Forest, NC  27587. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Amy’s name to the St. Bernadette Catholic Church renovation fund, 311 11th Street, Butner, NC  27509.
