Anne Moore Powell left us peacefully, Saturday, January 14th, 2023 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus, her husband of 66 years, Clifton, and her daughter, Janet Anne. Annie Grey, as she was known before her grandchildren were born, was raised in the beauty of Johnston County, North Carolina. After graduating from Selma High School, she was off to Meredith College in Raleigh to major in music. However she soon met a dashing Intelligence Specialist from the Army Air Corps and they were married in May of 1946.
They soon became lifelong members of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh and life at Forest Hills became their life and the focus of the family. She was known at Forest Hills as a more than 60 year member of the choir and upon her retirement from the choir donated a new set of robes for the singers. She was also known for her yearly rendition solo of the angel announcing the arrival of Christ ....." Fear Not..."
Her life passions were her church, family and horseshoes, actually defeating the senior minister in 1968 for the Church Camp Championship. Once her grandchildren, Rebecca and David Jr. were born she changed her name from Annie Grey to Mi Ma!! She was ecstatic when they moved from Kentucky back to Raleigh so she could hear them squeal MIMA.
She is survived by her son, David (wife Donna) of Raleigh; granddaughter, Rebecca (husband Tony) and grandson, David, Jr. (wife Eileen) of Wake Forest; great-granddaughters, Alexandra Del Fabbro and Laila Powell.
Dad always called her "his sweetie" but she will always be MiMa to the rest of us.
MiMa we miss you.
