Arthur Charles Lindsley III

Art Lindsley, loving husband, brother, father and grandfather, passed away February 18, 2021, at home.  Art was preceded in death by his parents, Clare (Chase) and Arthur Charles Lindsley, Jr.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry (Waxman) Lindsley, daughter Monique Mowle (Darren), sons Eric Sherman and Jeremy Lindsley (Lisa), siblings Susan Fusca (Domenick), Janet Cavataio (Jerry) and Gregg Lindsley, grandchildren; Rebecca, Sam, Noa and Tyler, brother-in-law, Ronald Waxman (Pearl) and several nieces and nephews.  

Art was born in 1942 in Willimantic, CT.  He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park, NY, in 1960, and Rochester Institute of Technology in 1977, earning a BS in Computer Science.  Art served three years in the United States Army while stationed in Germany.  He married his soulmate, Sherry, on June 2, 1968.  Art faithfully served IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY, and Research Triangle Park, NC, for over 30 years.  He jumped at the chance to travel to China for two extended work assignments where he enthusiastically explored the local culture and cuisine.  He was a dedicated volunteer for the annual Clearwater Festival, also known as The Great Hudson River Revival, inspired by Pete Seeger’s desire to clean up the Hudson River. Art treasured his time with family, loved to relax with a good book (Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams being two of his favorite comedy sci-fi authors), and was always ready for a Sunday NASCAR race. Art had a kind, helpful nature, a hearty laugh, smiling eyes, and a passion for preparing culinary masterpieces for family and friends.  He was best known for his Black Forest cake, molasses crispies, rugelach and special birthday cakes made for his grandchildren.  If you mentioned in passing that you liked a particular type of food or dessert, and Art would surprise you with it – sometimes in three different versions!  Sherry and he rescued, fostered, and adopted numerous pets during their 52 years together.  Art spent his retirement enjoying woodworking, folk music, home projects, reading, shuttling grandchildren to and from activities, playing the mountain dulcimer and traveling to California to visit family and perform in the annual Labyrinth Masquerade Ball.  Please visit brightfunerals.com to extend condolences.
