Arturo A. Granados-Leon

October 22, 1943 ~ April 19, 2024 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Tribute

Arturo Antonio Granados Leon (80) passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2024, with his family lovingly by his side.

Arturo aka “Arturito, Artie, Papi, Abuelo, Hermano, Primo, Tio, Querido Amigo” was born in San Jose, Costa Rica on October 22, 1943 to Baby Leon and Arturo Granados, Sr. As the oldest of 10, Arturo embodied the responsible, protective, independent, disciplined, and connector of the family with an always adventuring spirit.

At the age of 18, Arturo moved to the United States and lived with family and Tio Jimmy who instilled the quality of a “self-made man" in which he was made to learn fluent English the “hard way”. Arturo was a Vietnam Veteran and a longtime resident of New York City where he established his career as a Professional Men’s Clothing Salesman. He was a people person who was passionate in his career and would rather lose a sale than lose a customer. Therefore, customers, who often became friends, would follow him and his professional advice. Arturo was employed up until he was 80 years old and retired just a few months shy of his passing.

Arturo was a hard-working man who lived a straight and narrow simple life. Though he didn’t receive a high school diploma or a degree, he became, as he would say, “A graduate from the University of the World.” He invested in people wherever he went and was not just “present,” but wholly present. He knew the value and meaning of the true treasures of this life; relationships and making memories with his loved ones. He donated his time and money to many charities throughout his life and even volunteered as a bilingual translator at the local hospital. He was filled with wisdom and had much joy in encouraging others and putting a smile on their face with a kind word, gesture, and/or joke. He knew no stranger.

Arturo’s greatest passion and pride remained his great and unwavering faith in God and his large family where his legacy runs deep into the generations and loved ones he leaves behind.

He is survived by Yolanda Granados, his former wife of 34 years and mother of his children; Sylvia (Alejandro, Sr.) Lima, Lorena (Lex) Popovich, and Arturo Granados. He was a proud grandfather of Cecilia (Robert) Taggart, Alejandro “Papo” Lima, Aniyah (Joel) Hoffman, Koen (Alyson) Popovich, Eliana Popovich, Brielle Popovich, and Tal Popovich. He was the great-grandfather to Abigail and Ezra Hoffman, Brizielle and Isaiah Granados. Arturo is predeceased by his sibling, Cecilia, at a young age, and by his parents, Baby Leon and Arturo Granados, Sr. His surviving siblings are Liliana Granados Leon, Olga Granados Leon, Gustavo Granados Leon (Emilia), Baby Granados Leon (Ricardo Cordero D.), Elizabeth Granados Leon (Alvaro Barrantes Chaves), Blanca Granados Leon, Carlos Granados Leon, Marisa Granados Leon and their respective children and families, as well as, many cousins and friends.

En paz descanse amado Padre, Abuelo, Hermano, y Amigo.
