Aurilla “Sam” Dixon Lewis died peacefully on Saturday, September 1, 2018 in Raleigh NC at the age of 82.
Sam worked as an accountant for the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC for many years. While good with numbers, she was a gifted crafter. She and her husband, Duncan, owned and operated The House of Duncan Craft Store in Morehead City where they sold their handmade, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, baby doll clothing, baby blankets, and a variety of artwork including cross stitching. To the delight of her family, Sam continued crafting after retirement, providing her loved ones with beautiful handmade gifts.
Sam is survived by her husband of 41 years, Carl Duncan Lewis III of Raleigh NC, daughter Heather Lewis Johnson and son-in-law Brian, son Todd Duncan Lewis and daughter-in-law Leslie, and six treasured grandchildren, Drew, Mary Margaret, Caroline, Ava, Faith, and Aidan, and one great-granddaughter, Josiannah. She will be greatly missed by her brother, Lawrence Lee “Dinky” Dixon Jr. and wife Anne, sister-in-law and best friend, Nora Houston Dixon, sister-in-law Lucrecia and husband Mac McBee, along with many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Sam is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence Lee and Mary Evelyn Cannon Dixon and her sister, Mary Linda Dixon Smith and brother, Eugene Lee Dixon.
