Betty Looper Barham, 80, of Wake Forest went to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on June 5, 2018 after a 4 year battle with a blood disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 4, 1938 in Greenville, SC but spent most of her life in North Carolina. Betty was the daughter of Roy Augustus Looper and Willie Edna Snyder Looper. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Haywood Barham. She leaves behind two children, Dean Barham and wife Virginia of Merrimack, NH and Sherry Barham Upton and husband Jerome of Wake Forest; six grandchildren, Alexander Barham of Merrimack, NH, Rachel Barham Rogers (Landon) of Montebelluna, Italy, Rebecca Barham of Merrimack, NH, Graham Upton of Wake Forest, Gabriella Barham of Seattle, WA and Emma Upton of Wake Forest; and two great grandchildren Avila Joy Rogers and Holden Paul Rogers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by seven siblings Virginia Bruce (John), Pete Looper (Ruby), Faye O’Neal (Vermon), Wallace Looper, Joe Looper, Carolyn Bailey (Bill), David Looper. She is survived by two sisters-in-law Carol Looper of Wake Forest and Annette Looper of Raleigh. She was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was a long-time member of Wake Forest Baptist Church, she was a lover of church music and devoted much time to the music ministry. In addition to music Betty had an insatiable love of learning, was an avid reader and enjoyed expressing herself artistically through the making of dolls, painting and crocheting.

During the course of her professional life Betty worked at the Biblical Recorder, The NC Baptist State Convention, in the office of two-term Gov. Jim Hunt, Carolina Financial Group and Square D Corporation. Most of her career was spent in the area of Human Relations.

She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as “BB”.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wake Forest Baptist Church music ministry or Amedisys Hospice, (checks payable to “Amedisys Foundation”) 3320 US 1 Highway, Suite B, Franklinton, NC 27525.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday June 8 at 11 am at Wake Forest Baptist Church, followed by graveside committal at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.
