Tribute

Caleb Everett Wallace, of Raleigh, NC formerly of York, ME and Sanibel, FL, passed away on January 28, 2020 at the age of 86. He was born May 11, 1933 in Boston, MA and raised in Augusta ME.

Son of the late Everett Kenhelm Wallace and the late Althea Susannah (Flynn) Wallace. Beloved father of Jennifer and Greg Wallace and their spouses Bill Dobbs and Suzi Landis. Adored grandfather of Caroline, Sarah, Conrad and Davis. Cherished brother of the late Cynthia Jane Wallace, Joan (Wallace) Hawkinson and Robert Harrison Wallace. He is survived by his brother and sister, his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Cal was blessed to have the friendship and care of Shon and Timothy Lofton in his final years.

Cal graduated from Coney High School and from Boston University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1958. He spent his career as an executive with the John Hancock Life Insurance Company and pursued ongoing education at the Harvard Extension School for Management.  After retiring, Cal lived in York Harbor, ME and Sanibel, FL where he was active in his church, St. George’s Episcopal Church of York Harbor and with the Rotary Clubs of York and Sanibel. An avid animal lover, Cal volunteered with the J.N. Ding Darling Wildlife Society and doted on every dog he met. A proud Mainer, Cal loved to tell tales of working in the blueberry bogs, walking to school in the bitter cold uphill both ways, and the ships built by his ancestors in the 1770’s. In his later years, Cal cherished his lunches with high school friends at the Red Barn and enjoyed watching his Red Sox while eating a big bowl of strawberry ice cream. Cal will be remembered for his selfless support of his family and friends, boundless pride in his children and grandchildren, and seemingly endless supply of witty remarks.

Memorial Services will be held in Raleigh, NC and on a date to be announced at St George’s Episcopal Church in York Harbor, ME. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Caleb E. Wallace to St. George’s Episcopal Church, 407 York Street, York, ME 03909.
