Charles Lucanus Vaughan, 74, of Wake Forest, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Lucanus Yancey Vaughan and Carrie Ruth Callahan Vaughan. Charles was raised in Wake Forest and graduated from Rolesville High School. He attended Durham Tech where he met his future wife, Judy.


Charles spent two years serving his country in the US Navy. Upon completing his military service, he went to work with Western Electric in Raleigh and later farmed for a while before going to work at Moorman Feed Co. In 1986, Charles, with his wife Judy and son, Clint, started Vaughan Utilities and in 2004, they started Vaughan Grading and Utilities, Inc. which continues to operate.


Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, September 21, 2017 at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3328 Forestville Rd, Raleigh, NC 27616. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.


Charles is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Vaughan; son, Charles Clinton “Clint” Vaughan and wife, Julie, of Wake Forest; daughters, Kristal Vaughan Gaydon and husband, Jeffrey, of Wake Forest, and Amanda V. Dixon and husband, Daniel, of Wake Forest; grandson, Charles Dustin Vaughan of Wake Forest; granddaughters, Paige Elizabeth Wilson and husband, Brandon Jack Wilson, Devyn Nicole Gaydon, Alexandria Ann Vaughan and Savannah Roxanne Grace Gaydon all of Wake Forest; great-grandson, Joseph Banks Wilson of Wake Forest; great-granddaughter, Alexia Ann (Gaydon) Cross of Hope Mills; honorary son, Shorty and wife, Karen and daughter, Eileen of Wake Forest; sisters, Phyllis Chalk of Wake Forest, Carolyn McGee and husband, Nathan, of Conover and Patsy and Douglas Young of Rolesville; many neices, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Justin D. Gaydon.
