Clem Milan Philips

July 27, 1937 ~ February 6, 2024 (age 86) 86 Years Old



Clem Milan Philips, 86, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on February 3, 2024 after a brief illness.

Clem was born in Hillsboro, Iowa on July 27, 1937, and led a life marked by devotion and service. Clem proudly served with distinction in the U.S Navy and then embarked on a long and successful career with IBM, where he met many lifelong friends. 

Clem met Ingeborg Martha Jaeckel while working in New York City, and they married on August 4, 1962, making several cross-country moves until finally setting in Raleigh, NC.  Clem and Inge were devoted parents to Karen, Brian, and Jennifer and cherished grandparents to Megan, Emily, Lake, Walker, Katherine and Spencer.  As Clem and Inge raised their family, there were many vacation adventures traveling by RV across the country, and as the family grew in later years, regular family beach trips where many fond memories were made.

Clem and Inge also enjoyed traveling and gardening until Inge’s passing in 2016, and Clem’s interests also included designing a garden train collection and koi pond, raising chickens, cooking, and watching John Wayne movies while enjoying a glass of his favorite red wine. In recent years, Clem enjoyed the companionship of his beloved King Charles Spaniels, Max and Sophie.

Clem’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, integrity, and dedication lives on. Clem is survived by daughter Karen Bollin and husband Mark, son Brian Philips and wife Nancy, daughter Jennifer Rouse and husband Mark, grandchildren Megan Resnick, Emily Lessard and husband Isaac, Lake Rouse and wife Alexandra, Walker Rouse and fiancé Antonia Pantesco, Katherine Philips, and Spencer Philips and sister Sandy Cogdill. He is proceeded in death by his wife Ingeborg Jaeckel Philips and his parents Mamie Ellen and Clemuel Walker Philips.
