Colleen Mae Newton, 88, of Raleigh, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. She was born April 24, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Vigilio and Geraldine (Ruglio) Gatto.
Colleen married Murray Newton in June of 1953 and was married for 66 years. Murray passed away in September of 2018. She earned her Associates degree in Merchandising and worked in retail for many years. Colleen enjoyed crafts, seamstress work, and loved playing games; especially card games.
Along with her parents and her husband, Colleen was predeceased by her siblings: Dolores Larkin, Virgil Gatto, Geraldine Bragg, Marianne Gatto and Donald Gatto.
Colleen is survived by her children: Debbie Sheppard and husband Frank of Marco Island, FL., Kevin Newton and wife Lynn of Waterloo, SC, and Lloyd Newton and wife Erica Zendt of Raleigh; grandchildren: Mark Sheppard of Raleigh, Paul Sheppard and fiancée Melissa Rich of Raleigh, Bryan Newton and wife Rachel of Simpsonville, SC, Hannah Lockard and husband Graydon Lockard III, of Simpsonville, SC.; and great grandsons: Graydon Lockard IV and Wells Newton, both of Simpsonville, SC.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 520 W. Holding Ave, Wake Forest, NC. Inurnment will follow in the church memorial garden.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Heart Foundation, Kidney foundation or Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC 27607.
