Consuella Patterson Conway

Connie Patterson Conway, 90, formerly of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on October 15, 2020.  She was raised in Locust Valley, Long Island, New York by her father, Lafayette Patterson, and her mother Maria Sabina Vasconcellos Patterson who both predeceased her.  Her loving sisters were Marie, Muriel, Ileana, and a surviving sister is Elizabeth.  Connie was a proud cheerleader at Glen Cove High School and spent many hours with treasured friends.  In 1950, she married Army/Air Force veteran and AT&T New York Telephone Co. employee, James R. (“Jim”) Conway, from Pennsylvania, and they raised three children, Debbie, Lynne, and Joyce.  In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Connie worked as an assistant librarian at Stony Brook University Library.  She liked history also, and avidly collected antiques.  She later opened an antique shop in Port Jefferson, NY with a girlfriend and ran it for many years.  When Connie and Jim retired, they chose the Hendersonville, NC area and made a home nearby for 36 years. Her beloved husband, Jim, passed away in 2004.  She continued collecting and selling antiques, and going to auctions and tag sales with many dear friends in Hendersonville.  Connie is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, five grandchildren, one great grandson, and valued nieces and nephews.  At her passing, she specifically requested that any gifts from family and friends be donated to local charities.
