Della Batts, 85, of Raleigh, was called Home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 24, 2021.
She was the devoted wife of Colossie “Whitey” Batts; Mother of three daughters, Betty Saunders (Robb) of Wake Forest, Debbie McKinney (Bob) of Hurst, TX, and Hope Baker (Mark) of Ashburn, VA; Grandmother of nine; and Great-Grandmother of twelve. Della grew up in Elm City, NC, as one of Joseph and Sallie Robbins’ eight children.
She and Whitey celebrated 68 years of marriage in November, 2020 – a remarkable testimony of their commitment and deep love for each other through all the ups and downs of life and a rich legacy for their family. Of the several jobs Della held during adulthood, the twenty years she spent loving the kids on her school bus were the ones she recalled most fondly.
Actually, loving others was the hallmark of Della’s life. She managed to love each child, son-in-law, grandchild, great-grandchild, extended family member and friend in a deep and personal way. Each one could share countless examples of how Della loved him or her in unique and meaningful ways.
As a woman of faith, Della strove to be Christlike in the circles of influence where God placed her – always putting others first, a humble servant wherever needed in the church families and communities where she served.
Our hearts are heavy with our love and our loss, even as we celebrate her remarkable life lived by faith and the assurance that now she sees clearly the face of Jesus.
A service to celebrate Della’s life and Home Going will be held at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest, on March 30, 2021, at 2:00 PM.
The service will also be live streamed, for those unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Springmoor Endowment Fund, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.
