Donald "Don" Pearce

November 4, 1944 ~ August 4, 2022 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Tribute

Don ("Donnie"), 77, of Rolesville passed away on Thursday August 4, 2022. Don was born on November 5, 1944 in Dallas Texas to the late Elsie and Bruce Pearce, also of Rolesville. After spending a few years in Dallas, his family moved back to Rolesville where Don grew up surrounded by his family of the Youngs and Pearces. He later moved to Raleigh for some time, but moved back to Rolesville with his wife Joyce and 2 daughters, Dana and Nicole.

Don served in the US Army for 2 years where he was stationed in Okinawa. He worked in the accounting field until his retirement in 2010.

Don was an avid sportsman and loved watching, attending, and even played some sports  himself. Don followed NASCAR and especially enjoyed cheering on his UNC Tarheels, but his passion was golf! More than likely, Don could be found on a golf course Saturdays, Sundays, or any other day he had the opportunity to play! Don built strong relationships with his “golfin’ buddies” at Cheviot Hills Golf Course, where he was a longtime member, and Wil-Mar Golf Course.

Even after retirement, Don still enjoyed working. He held part-time jobs at Wil-Mar Golf Course, PNC Arena (for NC State basketball games and Carolina Hurricanes hockey games), as well as the Mudcats Stadium.

While Don was a quiet and reserved person, he truly enjoyed being in the company of others. He always looked forward to family reunions in July, family trips to Maryland, playing cards or other games with friends, and of course meeting up with his buddies for a round of golf. Don and Joyce created many happy memories with great friends at Myrtle Beach, trips to the Outer Banks, NC Mountains, Williamsburg, and on cruises.

Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Pearce and 2 daughters, Dana Pearce and Nicole Tillery (husband Josh Tillery); 2 grandchildren, Bailey Yarbrough and Blake Tillery; older sister, Sue O'Brien (of Murfreesboro, TN) and younger brother, Barry Pearce (of Winston-Salem, NC).

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Saturday August 13 at Bright Funeral Home - come anytime between 1:00-3:00 to share stories of Don and visit with loved ones. (This gathering is in lieu of a formal service or visitation.)

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
