Donald Wayne Bailey

Donald Wayne Bailey passed away Friday, May 20, 2022. For over 60 years, Donald worked in the optical business and worked his last 35 years running a business with his children. He loved spending time with his family, playing dominoes with his friends, and working outside in the sun. 

“Don” was a beloved member of his community who was always ready to make people laugh with a good joke. “Papa,” as he was called by his family, was always there for his family to provide care and make people laugh. He will be missed by his friends & family. 

He was born in Wake County son of the late Asa Bailey and Kathleen Harrison Bailey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Barham Bailey and a son Donald Jay Bailey. He is survived by a son, Craig Bailey and wife Missy, a daughter, Paige Cottrell and husband Mark, 8 grandchildren: Cara Hodge and husband Josh, Jade Marion and husband Travis, Jonas Bailey and wife Kayla, Caleb Cottrell, Grace Cottrell, Silas Cottrell, Noah Bailey, Nathan Bailey, and 3 great grandchildren: Brooks Marion, Baylor Marion, and Addison Bailey.

A funeral service will be held at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 22, 2022 in the Stony Hill Baptist Church Family Life Center with Rev. Mark Cottrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM prior to the service in the Family Life Center.
