Frances Hunt Leonard

Frances Hunt Leonard, 83, of Wake Forest, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, August 7, 2021. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of Lahoma and Willie Lee Hunt and was a member of Wake Union Baptist Church. She was a typesetter and proofreader at The Wake Weekly for many years. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, August 9, 2021 at Wake Union Baptist Church, 13345 Wake Union Church Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park in Louisburg. 

Mrs. Leonard is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Philip Leonard, Sr.; sons, Phil Leonard, Jr. of Wake Forest and Jeff Leonard and wife, Amy, of Wake Forest; granddaughter Meredith of Wake Forest; grandson Mason Leonard of Wake Forest; special friend (like a daughter), Mandi Carter Keith of Rolesville; brother-in-law, Gary Leonard (Kay) of Greensboro and many special nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Drucilla Neal (Bill) and brother-in-law Pete Leonard (Christine).

Frances was a gentle, soft spoken wife, mama, and grandma with a kind heart. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and church family. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, making fudge for the grandchildren and Philip’s golf buddies, and volunteering during retirement for Meals on Wheels.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Wake Union Baptist Church. 

Friends may visit with the family at Wake Union Baptist Church from 12:30 – 2:00 on Monday prior to the service.
