Tribute
Frederic Zinn age 79, passed on June 9, 2021 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He was born on April 4, 1942 in Queens, NY, to Eleanor (Krajci) Zinn.
Fred graduated from Sayville High School in Long Island, NY and served his country in the Air Force in Vietnam. He served in the Air Force for 8 years. In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart Carol. They were married for 58 years. The family moved to North Carolina in 1978 where he began work as a Senior Engineer with Nortel from which he later retired. He loved many different types of music. Years ago, he hosted a block on Sunday mornings with WCPE Classical Radio Station. Fred was an avid woodcarver and loved teaching others to carve as well. He volunteered for a number of years at the Oxford Orphanage teaching both soap carving and woodcarving and later taught the same in community classes to both kids and adults.
He is survived by his wife Carol Zinn of Wake Forest; daughters Mary (Pat) Rowan of Hastings, MN, Susan (Mark) Prather of Wilmington, NC, Jennifer Zinn of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren Matthew Rowan, Daniel and Kat Rowan, Joseph and Brittany Rowan, Andrew and Ginger Claypoole, Meagan Claypoole and Keith Griffin; great-grandchildren Athren, Meira, Vanessa, Vincent, Vivian, Drew, Sage and Kayden; sisters Debbie Hackley of Nassau, NY, Candee (George) Saghbini of Kanata, Ontario, Linda and Karen; brother Richard Zinn
A Celebration of his life will be held at 10 am on July 19th at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest. Visitation with family after the service. Internment will be at Eastern Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.
