George Ronald Runkle

George R. Runkle, 84, of Youngsville, NC died July 10, 2020, at Pruitt Health Nursing Home/Raleigh. He was born February 3, 1936, in Port Carbon, Pennsylvania, the son of George H. and Maude (Shappell) Runkle.

He served with the U.S. Air Force for 20-years. After the Air Force, George continued his service to our country as a civilian in the US government.

He married Judith Martha (Anderson) Runkle. They celebrated 55 years of marriage in December. George loved to play golf and was an avid sportsman. He was a Washington Redskins fan and loved NASCAR and golf.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Louise and seven brothers; Harry, Duck, Charles, Artie, Glen, Jackie and Ted.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Judi (Anderson) Runkle, are his son, Mark Runkle and his fiancée, Christine, daughter, Rhonda (Runkle) Ethridge and her husband, Mark; two grandchildren, Dakota Long and Shane Long; and many nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2020 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church 520 West Holding Avenue, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens at the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.  Clergy Reverends Dan Carson and Bill John Acosta-Escobar will be officiating the service.

Following the services, a Wake will be held at the family’s residence. Those who wish to remember George in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the American Heart Association.
