James “Jim” Thomas Mason, 84, of Wake Forest, went home to Jesus on March 10, 2020. Jim was born on January 13, 1936, in Ashland, Virginia, a son of the late John and Bessie (Fox) Mason.
In 1954, he joined the U.S. Air Force. Once stationed in Charleston, Maine, Jim met his wife, Muriel, and married in 1956. During his career he worked for several companies including General Electric Co. and Elliott Co. Following his retirement in 1998, Jim pursued a Master of Arts in Ministry from Newburg Bible College and Seminary. Upon receiving his degree, he went on to pastor several Baptist churches in the McRae, Georgia area. His last position as part-time minister at Southern Charm Assisted Living and McRae Manor Nursing Home was one of his most satisfying roles.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband and father, Jim also loved gardening and outdoor work. Throughout his entire life, Jim held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ryland Mason. Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Muriel (Bennett) Mason; his daughter Karen (Mason) Kroner, her husband Randy, granddaughter Abigail, grandson Alexander; one brother, John of Hanover, Virginia; one sister Nancy Searles of Ashland Virginia; sister-in-law Judy Libby of Corinth, Maine; sister-in law Margaret Bennett of Skowhegan, Maine; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
