Janis Barrier Underwood

Janis Barrier Underwood passed peacefully Friday, Dec. 7th to join her beloved husband, Dr. Nash Hare Underwood in heaven. She was born June 11, 1926 in Concord, NC to Beulah Walter and Eber Edward Barrier and lived all her adult life in the town she loved so much, Wake Forest. The focus of her time was as an active member of the Wake Forest Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed her Bookclub Studiosa and her bridge group. Forever passionate about the game of golf, in addition to her many trophies and accomplishments, she was most proud to have shot her age on her 76th birthday.

She is survived by her daughter Judy and husband Stephen Carl Gould and her son Martin Nash Underwood and wife Lori, and by 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Always a mother, she never stopped taking care of her family and could not have been more proud of each of them.

A memorial service will be held at the Wake Forest Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 15th at 11 AM with a reception at the church to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the WF Baptist Church, 107 E South Ave., Wake Forest NC 27587 and the Wake County SPCA, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh NC 27603.
