Jon Lewis Hughes, Sr., 82, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 12, 2020.
Jon was born December 15,1937, in Raleigh, NC, to George Buck and Rosa Lee Hughes. He served in the United States Air Force for seven years and worked with the United States Postal Service until he retired. He then worked as the general handy man at Neuse Baptist Christian School where all three of his children worked and seven of his eight grandchildren attended school. It was the highlight of their day to see “Papa” during the school day. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf in his earlier years. He was a member of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church in Raleigh and never knew a stranger.
Jon is survived by his wife Sue of 61 years, daughters Cindy Hotchkiss (Dan), Jeannie Creech (Pete), and son Jon Hughes, Jr. (Cindy), eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two brothers, George and Carlton and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Being sensitive to the spread of COVID-19, we will be having a private family graveside service on Saturday, March 21, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church Building Fund 3328 Forestville Road Raleigh, NC 27616
