Joseph "Joe" Candora

Joseph John Candora, 76 of Raleigh, NC, died September 21, 2021 after battling numerous health issues.  He was such a strong man and a fighter that no one illness could take him down.  He was born May 2, 1945 in Boston, MA, to the late Fred Candora and Marguerite (Andrews) Candora. 

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Fred “Butch” Candora.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service. He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger days and was a devoted sports fan to his favorite Boston teams the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.  He was always quick with a joke and was known for some of his self-composed sayings.  He enjoyed playing games, especially if competition was involved, including Skip-Bo and other card games, dominoes and in his final year, Jeopardy.  He enjoyed cooking and his lasagna was loved by many and will be missed dearly because no one will ever be able to duplicate it. He could often be found on his porch reading, enjoying a bowl of vanilla ice cream and strawberries when in season.  Above all things in the world, Joe loved his family the most.

Among those who will forever hold his memory and love in their hearts are his wife of 50 years Carol (Balchunis) Candora of Raleigh, NC; two daughters Christine Candora-Hickey and husband Chris Hickey of Holly Springs, NC, and Cheryl Candora of Raleigh, NC; one son Joseph Anthony Candora and wife Megan of Raleigh, NC; two grandsons Kent and Luke Candora of Raleigh, NC; one sister Mary (Candora) Jenkins, and one brother James Candora both of Raleigh, NC; and his beloved cat Flutie.   

A private memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 9, 2021 in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest, NC.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations are made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans.
