Joseph Stanley "Stan" Ray of Zebulon passed away Friday afternoon April 7, 2023 at his Residence.
Stan Ray was born with a drive for adventure. After spending a year in college playing baseball, he joined a civilian military contractor and travelled the world repairing radar domes. When he returned home in 1971, he followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Raleigh Fire Department and worked his way through the ranks to Captain during his 25-year career. He had many hobbies and passions such as singing, playing guitar, riding motorcycles, golf, hunting, fishing, and working on everything from building his houses to fixing cars, lawn mowers and tractors. Stan was a loyal and dedicated family man and neighbor. His exploits with his brother Greg and cousin Harley Van were legendary and stories involving him are to numerous to list.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife Dianne Ray, parents Joe and Maxine Ray, sister Starr Ray Hamilton, and sister-in-law Bonita Ray.
He is survived by his wife Debbie Ray, son K.C. Ray (Jennifer), daughter Trisha Dixon (Brad), brother Greg Ray, stepson Austin Marshall, stepdaughter Taylor Marshall, grandsons Scott Ray and Connor Dixon, step grandchildren Jordan Lairson (Katie) and Jessi Lairson, step great grandchildren Alexa Mann and Bailey Lairson, nephews and nieces Kevin Ray (Marisa), Kim Ray, Kelly Hamilton, Shea Kinlaw (David) and his dog Bub who never left his side.
Graveside Funeral Service will be held 2 P.M. Saturday April 15, 2023 at Pearce Baptist Church Cemetery, 4634 Pearces Rd, Zebulon, NC 27597 with Rev. Mark Cottrell officiating
The Family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 Prior to the Graveside Service in the Church Fellowship Hall and at other times at the home
