Tribute

Karen Rose (KayKay) Windley was born on June 29, 1954 in Belhaven, North Carolina to the late Lester Carson Brimmage and Sarah Murray Brimmage. She grew up in a large, close-knit family with three sisters and two brothers. After graduating from high school she moved to New York City, where she married her childhood sweetheart on November 2, 1972. They raised their three children in the Bronx, where she later graduated from Lehman College with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mrs. Windley then began a twenty-year career as a Hemotology Medical Technologist at North Bronx Central Hospital.

In 2008, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer with an average life expectancy of four years. Karen was a brave, iron-willed queen and beat the odds by surviving twelve years. Her Christian life was guided by the Holy Spirit and she dedicated time ministering to other cancer patients and any person in need. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. On Monday, June 22, 2020, she was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and passed away surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Mrs. Windley is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Norma Jean (NaNa) Ortiz; and brothers, James (Jimmy) Brimmage and Lester Carson (Bud) Brimmage, Jr. She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, David (Leon) Windley; and her daughters: Monica Patrice Windley Dennis and husband Paul Dennis; Myra Windley John and husband Wendell John; Karena Davette Windley; and one stepdaughter, Jozette Wilkinson; her beloved sisters: Mary Patricia Brimmage and Sarah Brimmage; eight wonderful grandchildren: Cameron, Sydney, Jaylin, Carson, Karter, Kailyn, Khloe, and Khyler; a father-in-law, David Lee Windley; a mother-in-law, Helen Windley; a brother-in-law, Wilfred Windley; two sister-in-laws, Cynthia Ensley and Patricia Satterthwaite; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and friends. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished.
