Linda Carroll Lenander

February 9, 1950 ~ July 15, 2019 (age 69)


Linda Carroll Lenander, amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend loss her valiant fight against cancer at her home on July 15, 2019.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Donald Bradley Lenander; her children: Dee Dee Lenander Zigler, and husband David Brian Zigler of Falls Church, Virginia., and Chad Bradley Lenander of Raleigh; and grandchildren: Jacob Brian Zigler, Kayleigh Juhl Zigler, Ashley Brooke Zigler and Layton Autry Lenander.  She is also survived by her siblings: Bonnie Plehal of Grand Prairie, Texas, Pat Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas, Cathy Long, of Fort Worth, Texas and Don Carroll of Burleson, Texas.   

Linda loved being a medical social worker and her long career spanned 32 years at Denver Health and another 3 years at Duke University Medical Center.  Linda first honed her skills as an Emergency Room Social Worker in the Denver Health Emergency Department “aka - Denver General Knife and Gun Club” before moving into management and becoming the Director of the Clinical Social Work Department at Denver Health and then Duke University Medical Center.  Throughout her career Linda was passionate about helping those in need; whether it was providing supportive counseling and resources for patients experiencing sexual and/or domestic violence; providing crisis counseling to families of trauma patients or creatively discharging patients to the most appropriate level of care.  She was also an ardent advocate for the profession of social work and was deeply invested in mentoring and training future generations of medical social workers. 

In retirement Linda was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Hasentree community.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date.  In lieu of flowers please donate to the Linda Lenander Memorial Victim Services Fund, at The Denver Health Foundation 777 Bannock Street; MC 0111, Denver, CO 80204. These gifts will be utilized to support patients experiencing crimes of violence.
