Lorna Jean (Whiteaker) Childress

February 17, 1941 ~ March 20, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Lorna Jean Childress, 81, of Youngsville, North Carolina went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2022 after battling with Vascular Dementia for 8 years. She was a member of Draper Valley Baptist Church and a retired Nurse from Springmoor Life Care in Raleigh, North Carolina. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy Childress, the love of her life, her parents, Marion and Henrietta Whiteaker, along with brothers, Lawrence, Larry, Bill and Monte; Her brother-n- laws, Ben Hoops, Harold and Roy Childress; step daughter Robin Childress; and grandson, Matthew Williams. She is survived by her 6 children Joel Williams, Debbie Owens and her husband Jeff , Terri Stephens and her husband Carl, Robin O’Hora and her husband Bill, Scott Williams and his wife Corey, and step daughter Sarah Tiller and her husband Matthew. The only thing better than having Jean as a mom was having her as a grandmother(Nanny) of 16, Ashley, Leslie, Amanda, Lorna, Mattie, Erica, Will, Justin, Jacob C., Samantha, Ryan, Connor, Zachary, Brittany, Michael and Jacob P.; and a great grandmother of 12, Alexa, Jordyn, Elijah, Isaac, Evee, Skye, Aiden, Kylee, Nolan, Savannah, Caroline, and Braylen. Jean will be dearly missed by her brother & sister in laws; Wayne and Judy Childress, Bill and Lois Hookham, German and Sharon Ruiz, Johnny and Kathy Nebel, Joann Hoops, Maxine Yeager, Margie Childress, Nancy Whiteaker, Jane Whiteaker, and Delaine Whiteaker: along with many nieces and nephews. 

Jean had the special gift of turning any house, and she had many, into a home. Her love for decorating, sewing and home-cooking made everyone feel welcome and comfortable.  She loved collecting seashells while walking on the beach and singing hymns with the Gaither Vocal Band.  Her devotion to family, friends and neighbors will long be remembered through all the many quilts, dolls, stuffed animals, ceramics, Christmas decorations and photo albums she made over the years. 

Friends are invited to join the family for the Visitation/Viewing at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest, NC between 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, March 25, 2022.

 The Funeral will be held at Beacon Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Burial will be at Southwest VA Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 10:00am. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Beacon Baptist Church, 2110 Trawick Road, Raleigh, NC 27604 or to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27607 for the loving care and prayers during mom’s care.
