Luise Ella White

October 27, 1935 ~ May 29, 2023 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Luise Ella White 87, a longtime resident of Marina, California peacefully passed away on Monday morning, May 29, 2023.

Luise was born October 27, 1935, in Haβfurt, Germany to Otto and Ida Bauer. She attended the Volksschule in Burgpreppach Germany from 1942 until 1950.  She spent her early years living in and near Schweinfurt Germany until she was married to Earnest K. White on March 16, 1962.  Marrying an American Soldier brought her to Marina, California on the Monterey Peninsula in 1962 where she lived for most of her adult life.  She returned to Germany in 1971 with her family for a year and a half and lived in Schweinfurt until 1972 when she returned to Marina.  She moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to live with her son Joe and then on to Raleigh, NC in 2019.

Luise had numerous and various jobs, however her passion was volunteering and crocheting.  She loved to crochet and made hundreds of crocheted blankets, booties, hats, and other items that she donated to the Monterey Peninsula Hospital for newborns.  She loved working in her yard and garden and had a green thumb.  She was a member of the Marina United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years as her Church’s landscaper.  She also enjoyed traveling and made several trips back to Germany, Hawaii and throughout the US.  She was a wonderful dancer, loved going to the casinos, and playing cards with friends.

She was a dedicated housewife and loving mother.  Most of all, she loved her children Joe and Scott, her grandchildren and, her six great-grandchildren.  She loved attending her grandchildren Aaron and Evan’s baseball and soccer games.  When visiting her you had to be prepared to have coffee and cake, or pie, or pastry.  She loved her candy; there was always an abundance of candy for her grandkids.

Luise was truly a remarkable and dedicated mother, grandma, and great-grandma. From her German custom she was known as Omi and Uhr Omi.  That is the German word for grandmother.   It will be hard to imagine a world without her in it.  She was beautiful inside and out, a friend to many.   Although she is missed terribly, we are thankful she is at peace now.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Falls River Village Assisted Living in Raleigh, NC and Amedisys Hospice Care for their attentive, compassionate, comforting care and support they provided, not only to our mother but to the family as well.

Luise is preceded in passing by her husband Earnest, her father Otto Bauer, her mother Ida Bauer, her sisters Erika, Helga, and brother Dieter. Those who are here to share and celebrate Luise’s memory are her sons, Joe and his wife Kem of Raleigh, NC, Scott and his wife Rachel of Rancho Mirage, CA, her sister Monika Henneberger of Germany, grandchildren: Aaron White and his wife Lauren,  Evan White and his wife Amanda, along with her six great-grandchildren Abigail, Riley, Presley, Norah, Sterling, and Nathan.
