Maggie McConnell

Maude MacDonald McConnell, Maggie, passed away on April 28, 2022 at the age 82.  Maggie was born to Eloise and Carlton MacDonald in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 14, 1939.  She graduated from Broughton High School and then attended East Carolina University.  At the age of 50, she pursued her passion for nursing at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences in Concord, North Carolina in order to serve as a caregiver to her aging mother and aunt.

            At the age of 20, she was married to Thomas S. Owens and they were blessed with three children.   In 1977, she married Carl McConnell of Cary, North Carolina finding much joy and happiness until his passing on August 7, 2014.

            For many years, she was an active member of Green Level Baptist Church in Cary, where she volunteered in many hospitality roles as well as teaching Sunday School and serving at Vacation Bible School until her health began to decline.

            She was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Margie Carlene  Moore in 2020 and is survived by her son Thomas S. Owens III and his wife, Vicci; her daughter Eloise Traie Owens and her husband, Chuck Walkley; her grandchildren Kathleen Ann Moore, Cristin Owens Ratkowski and her husband Brad, Haley Amelia Garritano, Preston Owens; her great grandson, Braxton Ratkowski, her sister Margaret Jean Early; her nieces Ginny Lewis and Elizabeth Scott, and nephew Jack Early.

            The family would like to thank Hillside Rehabilitation and Nursing of Wake Forest for the kindness and love they shared during her brief stay with them.  We also thank Transitions Lifecare for their support.

            A memorial service will be held for Maggie on May 1, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her honor to: www.alivingtribute.org.
