Mary Margaret “McGuire” Northrop of Alexandria, Virginia, born August 30, 1928, passed peacefully, with her family at her bedside in her daughter’s home in Youngsville, North Carolina. Mrs. Northrop relocated to independent living in Wake Forest, North Carolina in 2016 where she enjoyed many new friends and activities, where she was surrounded with reverence and kindness.

Mrs. Northrop was a native Alexandrian. She grew up in the Del Ray area and graduated from Saint Mary’s Academy. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary McGuire, brothers Thomas and Leo. Beloved wife of the late Edward D. Northrop, to whom she was married on February 14, 1947.

Left to honor her and remember her love is brother John McGuire; her children, Col (Ret) Edward D. Northrop, Sharon Pettey, Jenifer Lam, Glenn Northrop, Nicole Cerino and Erik Northrop; her grandchildren, Michelle Conner, Stacey Shreve, John Lam, Denise Copeland, David Northrop, Danielle Lam, Nick Northrop, Layne Cerino, Blair Cerino, Kevin Northrop and Keera Northrop; her great-grandchildren, who know her as “GiGi,” Aidan, Ian, and Kyla Conner, Tessa and Avery Lam, Lindley and Brynn Shreve, Kaaya and Alahna Copeland, and Asher Northrop.

Mary’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service held at The Lodge at Wake Forest, 1151 S Main Street, Wake Forest, North Carolina on September 5, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Please join us in prayer and celebration of a life well lived and well loved.

There will be a memorial service at her Virginia Home celebrated at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, Virginia on Sept 7, 2019. Friends and family are invited to join us to say goodbye to our sweet, sweet mom, our Angel. Visitation at Jefferson will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service. She is finally at peace in her eternal home with all of her loved ones who have gone before, and most of all she will rest in the Glory of our Lord Jesus Christ our God.
