Mary V. Peterson

Mary Voglewede Peterson, beloved wife, loving mother, one of many closely connected siblings, and dear friend of many passed away peacefully on February 17, 2019.

Mary was born in Hampton, Virginia on August 21, 1954 and graduated from Peninsula Catholic High School in 1972. She attended Virginia Tech which she graduated from in 1976 and after that obtained a second degree in data processing. Once her formal education was completed, Mary pursued a very successful career in information technology. Positions she held included Manager of Information Systems at QualChoice of Virginia and Project Manager at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years Rick; her son Noel and wife Lauren, grandchildren: William and Brianna; sister, Peggy, sister, Chris and husband Tom, brother, Carl and wife Karen, and brother, Joe and wife Linda, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary will be remembered for her sharp wit, sense of humor, smile, concern for others, her love of music and dancing, and her many interests. She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. The beauty she created in the yard with her flowers and the delicious vegetables she grew was incredible. Mary likewise captured so much beauty through her passion for photography. She loved taking pictures and sharing everything she experienced. Her many other interests included skiing, windsurfing, bike riding, kayaking, scuba diving, and snorkeling. Many of you will remember Mary for being the first on the dance floor. Mary enjoyed traveling with her favorite destinations being the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Caribbean island of Bonaire. Nothing made her happier than swimming in the ocean water, combing the beach for sea shells, and watching the sunsets over the water. She was a lover of animals of all sorts, and was a wonderful companion for her many pets all of which she dearly loved.

Please join us in celebrating Mary’s life. Visitation will be held Friday March 1, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Bright Funeral Home 405 S. Main St. Wake Forest, NC. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday March 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home, Wake Forest. A reception will follow the funeral service at Mary’s home.
