Tribute

Myra Hayes Martin went home to the Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2020 after a brief illness.

Myra Hayes Martin was born July 25, 1934 in Harnett County, North Carolina.  Myra will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother.  She was dearly loved by her two sons Mike and Chris, and by her husband of 63 years, John “Bud” Martin who went home to the Lord in December, 2019.

Myra was predeceased by her husband, John Milton “Bud” Martin, her parents, Robert Fulton Hayes and Dora Kathleen Hayes (Campbell) of Rocky Mount, Edgecombe County, NC, and her brother, Richard F. Hayes of Cherry Hill, New Jersey.  She is survived by her sons, Michael A. Martin (Tracy) of Angier, NC, and Christopher N. Martin of Apex, NC, and by her brothers Kenneth E. Hayes (Margaret) of Rocky Mount, NC, and Donald W. Hayes (Margaret) of Rocky Mount, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Myra married John Milton “Bud” Martin in May, 1956 in Temperance Hall, NC.  They raised their family in Raleigh NC, before moving to Wake Forest, NC in 1980.  They built a home in the Stony Hill community near Wake Forest where they became active members of Stony Hill Baptist Church.  Myra was very active in the church and enjoyed her church community.  She was active in the Helping Hands Mission and other activities in the Church until her declining health limited her participation.

Myra was a loving wife and mother.  She raised her two sons in a home filled with warmth and love.  She dearly loved her family, including her brothers and their families in Rocky Mount, NC, and Cherry Hill, New Jersey.  She also loved Bud’s family very dearly and always looked forward to Christmas Parties and other occasions. Myra was a kind and gentle person who enjoyed many long friendships, including both her Woodcrest community of friends and her Stony Hill community of friends.

The family would like to thank Pat Hocutt for her loving care of our Mother over the past several months since Dad passed away.  Pat has been a blessing to our family!

We would also like to thank Pastor Jeff Mayfield and many friends and neighbors for their support and acts of kindness.

A funeral service will be held privately for the family. An online memorial service will be available after the service from Stony Hill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to: Stony Hill Baptist Church, 7521 Stony Hill Rd. Wake Forest NC, 27587.
