On February 25, 2022 the life journey of Nancy Jean Dement was completed. Nancy was born to Joseph B. Medlin and Mable Ransdell Medlin on July 26, 1939 in Franklin County. Nancy was a loving, devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mable Medlin; her eldest brother, Joseph P. Medlin; and sister Mildred Edith Wright.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother Roosevelt Medlin; her husband of 35 years, Toby Dallas Dement; daughters June Kaye Smith (James), Audrey Denton Kellogg (Douglas), step-daughter Symantha Sass (Terry); grandchildren Janie Lathrop (Brandon), Jennifer Holiday, LeighAnne Kellogg, Greyson Kellogg, David Sass, Andrew Sass, Rebekah Goode (Shane), Kaitlyn Sass; great-grandchildren Josie and Elaine.
Nancy had many gifts: cooking, sewing, and a green thumb envied by many. She enjoyed adventures in travel whether to the beach, Kerr Lake, the mountains, or visiting her sister in Florida. She enjoyed gardening, nature, and spent many hours relaxing on the front porch talking with family and friends. She found joy spending time with her family. Her sweet nature and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
The family is so thankful for the many kind words and gestures given by so many during her lengthy illness with Alzheimer's. We wish to acknowledge the loving and exceptional care she was given by her friends Margaret, Portia, Diane, Louise, and all the hospice nurses who worked to make her as comfortable as possible.
A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Franklinton Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
The Dement family is being served by Bright Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Memorial contributions in Nancy's honor can be made to Franklinton Baptist Church.
