June 23, 2009 ~ March 30, 2018 (age 8) 8 Years Old

Tribute

Noel Kamil Mayo, 8 years old passed away March 30, 2018 at Duke University Hospital in Durham. She was born June 23, 2009 in Durham the daughter of Sidney and Sakenya (Brown) Mayo. She lived in Wake Forest with her mom and dad.

Funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday April 7, 2018 in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Wake Forest.

Noel was born with a congenital heart defect, Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome. She went through 4 open heart surgeries from the age of one week old to age 3. As a complication from her last surgery she developed an illness known as PLE that would cause her to need a heart transplant. Throughout her short time here on earth, she endured long hospital stays with the most recent stay being the longest at 11 months, consisting of many scans, sticks and so much more. She was the true definition of strong! Through all this she still smiled, showed endless love and rarely complained.

Noel was a first grade student at Franklin Academy in Wake Forest, NC but had to become enrolled in the Duke Hospital School due to her long hospital stay.
Noel liked to dance (she took both ballet and tap); sing, play with her I-pad and Nintendo DS and build Legos. She absolutely loved to color and draw pictures (sometimes she would complete an entire coloring book in a day or two she loved it just that much) and Noel loved school. She liked to get dressed up and have spa days. Noel liked going to Myrtle Beach. She loved to cuddle and give kisses. She adored her Teddy Bear (he went with her everywhere); Noel loved making crafts or projects for mom and dad. She loved pizza and Red Robin was her favorite restaurant.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather George Mayo, Sr., paternal great grandparents Tennyson and Mollie B. Hockaday and Goldwyn, Sr. and Frankie Mayo; maternal great grandfather Welsey J Newkirk, and maternal great grandmother Sydney Mae Blanks, and maternal great grandfather Dossie Brown.

Noel is survived by her parents Sidney and Sakenya, maternal grandmother Cassaundra N. Brown, maternal grandfather Roger Dale Brown, paternal grandmother Lorraine H. Mayo, two aunts, seven uncles, and tons of extended family and friends who all loved her dearly.
