Raymond E. Barbeau

June 1, 1929 ~ May 30, 2023 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

Raymond Barbeau passed peacefully from this life on May 30, 2023. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts on June 1, 1929 to Avila Joseph Barbeau and Rosana (Cadorette) Barbeau.

Throughout his life, Raymond was a kindhearted, faithful, and hardworking man. He began working at a young age, first serving as a golf caddy and pin setter at a local bowling alley. He developed a passion for cartography, working at the federal level with both the Army Map Service and the Defense Mapping Agency. Ray demonstrated exceptional skill and motivation, and his dedication to his work was evident as he was tasked with mapping the Moon - a project he remembered fondly over the years.

Ray touched many lives daily through his caring, creative, and patient demeanor. He was a loving father and husband, as well as a longtime volunteer with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society and member of the Knights of Columbus. Ray shared his love of chess, poetry, and music with a great number of people through teaching children critical thinking and patience by mastering chess and singing weekly in various church choirs.

Ray is preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannette Barbeau. He is survived by his wife, Mary Barbeau; his sons Paul, John and Mark; his grandchildren, Christopher, Steven, Michelle and Nicholas; his stepchildren, Mary, Debra and Barbara; his step grandchildren, Sophia, Zachary, and Marcello; and his step great-grandchildren, Rowena and Marius.

Family, friends and others whose lives have been touched by Ray may make memorial contributions in his name to the American Diabetes Foundation (https://diabetesfoundationinc.org)
