Tribute

With heavy hearts and peaceful prayer, we announce the passing of Robert Leon Byrd.

Robert Leon Byrd, a Hope Mills native, passed peacefully at home in Raleigh, North Carolina at the age of 79 from complications of congestive heart failure and pneumonia. He was born July 24, 1941 to a family of five. While growing up he attended Hope Mills High School and then became a valued member of the Army Reserve for seven years. After faithful service, Robert worked for Servitex Company for forty years until retirement. Robert, a devoted member of Raleigh First Assembly of God, served as an usher and in the ministry of hospitality until he was disabled. An avid fisherman, wood worker, and family man, Robert was truly a “jack” of many trades.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and Esther Byrd, sisters, Ruby Anderson, Jearlean Williams, and Linda Suiter.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Byrd of Raleigh, NC, sister, Joan Hart of Hope Mills, NC, children, Robert L. Byrd of Roxboro, NC and Misty Hawk of Kenly, NC and grandchildren, Bryson Byrd, Robert P. Byrd and Cody Byrd all of Bahama, NC and Gabriella Hawk Kenly, NC.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 12:00 Noon in the Bright Funeral Home chapel. There will be a public viewing from 9:00 – 11:30 A.M. Monday at Bright Funeral Home. The family will not be present for the viewing. A private entombment will be held at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we require that all attendees be respectful in wearing masks and social distancing due to health considerations and safety.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations of memoriam be sent to the “Royal Rangers” at Raleigh First Assembly of God Church: 2620 Yonkers Rd. Raleigh NC, 27604.
