Robert Christopher “Bob” Conroy, 80, of Wake Forest passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 peacefully in his sleep at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He was born March 1, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Christopher Conroy and Mildred North.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. in the Bright Funeral Home chapel. Due to Covid-19 the family has asked that all those wishing to attend the service please make a request by calling the funeral home at 919-556-5811. All in person attendees are asked to please practice social distancing of at least 6 feet and face coverings will be required. The service will be live streamed for those not attending in person. He was a man of extraordinary character, humility, kindness, compassion and good will. He was creative, full of optimism, humor and knowledge beyond measure. Bob’s spiritual being and relationship blossomed in later years and he was humbly thankful for God’s mercy and extended years. Bob was a perfect gentleman. In all, everyone will miss his wisdom and conversation.

Bob’s passions included theater organ, all things Jazz, Swing and Dixieland music.

Special recognition and thanks are extended to the Duke University Cardiology providers and specifically the VAD staff. Your exemplary care is commendable beyond words.

Bob was a graduate of Merchantville High School class of 1957, Merchantville, NJ and Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA and licensed in Professional Engineering in the State of New Jersey.

His early work as a Fellow with Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Hospital (EPPI) for 20+ years was dedicated to R&D in Neurophysiology. He then founded in 1972, ORBACOM Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of public Health & Safety dispatch communications. ORBACOM offered around-the-clock solutions for Public Safety, Utility, Transportation and Government sectors in over 2,000 sites globally. He later did consulting with Raytheon on Public Safety Communications.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Victoria Aston-Conroy (Vicky), Jessica Aston-Henry, Jeffrey Aston, Jennifer Aston and Jemma Aston along with a host of other family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.
