Robert Nelson Hovey

Robert “Bob” Nelson Hovey, 87, of Wake Forest NC passed away on August 4, 2017. Bob was born December 5, 1929, in Clarkson, NY to the late Clayton Hovey and Hazel Carter Hovey. At the age of 18, he joined the Navy and later married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Helen Margaret Kerman. They were married for 53 years, prior to her passing in 2003.

Bob worked as a tool and die supervisor for General Electric/Black and Decker in Brockport, NY and Asheboro, NC for 41 years. After retiring, Bob and Helen resided in Conway, SC, Charlotte, NC, and Wake Forest, NC. Bob enjoyed a lifetime of fishing, boating, golfing, playing guitar, singing, dancing, and traveling around the world. He loved his Carolina Panthers. He was always the life of the party.

Bob is survived by (and “responsible for” …as he used to enjoyed saying) his son, Bob Hovey and his wife Dail of Jacksonville, FL, and his three daughters, Dianne Whiteheart and her husband, Ace, of Charlotte, NC; Karen Davis and her husband, Larry, of Wake Forest, NC; and Carol Bray and her husband, Randy, of Asheboro, NC. Bob is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jamie Staggs, Kristyne Forbes, Dustin Bray, Adam Bray, Clayton Whiteheart, Mandie McKenzie, Katie Rhoads, and Bob Hovey, Jr. and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition , Bob is survived by his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Knuth and her husband, Harvey, of Bend, OR, and Elizabeth Kerman. Last but not least, his little sweetie pie, “Harley,” his faithful dog.

The Hovey family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful ladies of “Seniors Helping Seniors” and Kathy Uveges for the loving care they provided our Dad over the past year, and to Mari and Britta for their Special friendships.

A private family celebration of Bob’s life will be held in the near future.
