It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an incredible man who brought so much joy and light to all who knew him. Known for his stories of life experiences, told in his hilarious style; Roger was well loved by everyone he met, and always put others’ well-being and happiness first. Although from Raleigh, Roger spent the last few years at Salter Path, N.C.
As a Marine, Roger served in covert action in Vietnam, and received many medals of commendation, including the Purple Heart. He served as a volunteer fireman in his community, and supported his church. He divided his career between the military and the trucking industry, and was passionate about anything to do with boating and the coast; especially surf fishing. Roger volunteered at the N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, as well as Meals On Wheels. When there was any ACC game playing on TV, Roger was watching. He especially loved spending time with his daughter, grandchildren, and his constant companion, his beloved dog – Boo Boo.
Roger was predeceased by Trisha, his wife of 43 years; his parents, Nancy and Tommy Duckett of Charlotte; his sister Marcia Bennett of Mt. Olive and his brother, Richard Duckett of Charlotte. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Reavis (Sam) and brother, Tommy (Beth) of the Charlotte area, sisters-in-law, Bonnie Duckett of Charlotte, Annette Lassiter of Southern Pines, Janet Riddle, and Paula Lassiter of Raleigh. Survivors also include his daughter Nikki Ransdell of Swansboro, and grandchildren Kaylee, Karolanne, and Lilli Ransdell; as well as many nieces and nephews.
