Tribute

On September 25, 2019, Roy Gordon Bergfors quietly passed away at home in Wake Forest, NC. He is survived by his beloved wife, their children and four grandchildren.

Roy was born July 24, 1937 in Salem, OH to Arnold and Irene (Bates) Bergfors. He and his only wife, Doris, were married on August 4, 1962 in Davenport, IA. They raised three children, Gordon, Robbin and Heather.

Roy loved his home city of Chicago, IL. He served the U.S. Navy as yeoman on the U. S. S. Grouper AGSS-214 submarine. In 1976, he received his B.S. in Mathematics from Rutgers University and built a successful career in telecommunications as Systems Engineer on the SCARAB project for AT&T Long Lines. Roy was so proud to contribute to the important work of trans-oceanic telecommunications and enjoyed traveling the seas.

Roy had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and was ordained as a Deacon for the Lutheran Church. He served as Deacon at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Succasunna, NJ. After retiring from AT&T in 1989, he and Doris embarked on a new adventure as proprietors of the Sis-Q-Inn, Weed, CA, at the base of the beautiful Mount Shasta. While in Weed, Roy served his community as a member of the Rotary Club, a member of the Weed Town Council and a term as Mayor of Weed. In 2000, Roy and Doris pulled up stakes again to settle in Wake Forest, NC to be closer to their son and grandchildren. Over the past 19 years, Wake Forest has become their home and for that they have been grateful.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathleen. He is survived by his wife, Doris; three children, Gordon, Robbin and Heather; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Ryan, Miles and Julian; sister, Marilyn; and several nieces and nephews.
