Ruth Marilyn McCaffrey, 89, of Wake Forest, passed away February 12, 2019. She was born January 26, 1930 In Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of the late James and Laura (Gleim) Bannon. Ruth was raised in Jersey City until she moved with her mother to Southern California at the age of 18; where she met and married Captain William (Bill) D. McCaffrey of the U.S. Merchant Marines.

Ruth was very active in the Daughters of America, a patriotic organization, and served as the State Councilor of California in 1970, and National Councilor for the organization in 1994-1996. She was the owner of Oranco Escrow Company in the 1960’s and one of the pioneer female small business owners of that era. She also became a Real Estate Broker along with her husband.

Ruth moved to Wake Forest, NC, in 1987 to be near her daughter and son in law, Linda and Kent Lindsey and their three daughters. She was active in real estate development and was the developer behind several Wake Forest neighborhoods.

She was artistic and creative and enjoyed floral arranging, decorating and cooking. She and her husband, Bill, traveled extensively, with the Far East being a favorite destination. Her family was everything to her, and she enjoyed taking vacations and spending time with all of them.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, William McCaffrey in 1989, and her brother, Robert Tilton.

She is survived by her son, Douglas McCaffrey of Raleigh, her daughter, Linda Lindsey and husband Kent of Wake Forest, grandchildren: Sean McCaffrey, of MA, Rebekah Snyder of Raleigh, Stephanie Hughes of Raleigh, Hannah Lindsey of Salt Lake City, UT, and Connor McCaffrey of Wilmington; and 4 great-grandchildren, Waylon, Chandler, Ellis and Isla.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main Wake Forest, NC. Interment will follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive from 1-2:00 pm prior to the service.
