Sara ‘Sally’ Curry Challender, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2022, after years of suffering from Alzheimer’s.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, July 28th at 2:00 p.m. in the Bright Funeral Home Chapel.
Sally was born on January 26, 1946, in Washington DC. She graduated from Greenwich Academy High School in 1963 and then graduated from Smith College in 1967 with a degree in Mathematics. She lived in Omaha, Nebraska for 37 years where she raised her two children. She was an Information Technologist with Central States Health and Life Insurance Co. of Omaha for 34 years where she created many life-lasting friendships. She was active with the Special Olympics and her son’s teams, coaching, organizing, and volunteering. A reliable friend to many, an avid bridge player, and a weekend gardener. She retired to Wake Forest, North Carolina to live near her grandchildren. Sally is best described as hard-working, responsible, and caring. She raised 2 beautiful children while working full-time to support them. She always cared for her special needs son, never leaving his side until her health decline forced her to.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Bartlett Curry and Marybelle Carr Curry of Daytona Beach Shores, FL. She is survived by her son Robert Curry Challender, her daughter Julie Challender Frame and husband Robert Frame and their three sons Coleman, Tyden, and Kasen of Wake Forest, NC, a sister Sandra Smoot and husband Oliver Smoot of San Diego, CA, her niece Sherry Smoot Freitas, San Diego, CA, nephew Steve Smoot of San Francisco, CA.
She will be remembered for her kind eyes, caring smile, and sacrifices for her family.
