Shirley Massey Nance

Shirley LaRue Massey Nance, age 83 passed away February 7, 2019 at Transitions Life Hospice Care facility in Raleigh due to complications from cancer. She was born on December 31, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Minnie Lowery Massey and Frank Kearney Massey. She was a lifelong resident of Wake Forest and a member of Wake Union Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 11:00am at Wake Union Baptist Church,  13345 Wake Union Church Rd, Wake Forest. Friends may visit with the family after the service in the church sanctuary.

Mrs. Nance is survived by her husband of 59 years, Boyce A. Nance; son, Anthony Nance of Raleigh, son, Greg Nance and wife Cindy of Wake Forest; daughter, Karen Powell and husband, Stuart of Wake Forest; grandchildren include Grayson Nance of Raleigh, Brandon Nance of Wake Forest, Christian Nance of Raleigh, Sarah Powell of Cary, Graham Powell of Wake Forest, and Abby Nance of Wake Forest; step-grandchildren Brady and Carter Alls of Wake Forest; sister, Rose, “Sweet Pea” Bailey and her husband Bill of Greensboro, NC.; several nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Nance was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Denson, Louise Smith, Lillie Massey, Nellie Marshal, Ruby Hicks, Ethel Hunter, Pearl Horton and Lacy Wall; brothers, Lonnie Massey, Bruce Massey, Frank Massey, Jr. Robert Massey, Andrew Massey and Alexander “ Dick” Massey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following: Wake Union Baptist Church, Duke Raleigh Cancer Center or Transitions Life Care (Raleigh, NC)

The family would like to thank Dr. Margaret Deutsch and staff of Duke Cancer Center for their wonderful care of mother over the years. They would also like to thank the staff and nurses at Transitions Life Care for their compassionate care during the last few weeks of mom’s life. Thank you also to the members of Wake Union Baptist Church for all you have done.
