Tribute

Stephanie Mashburn Santos of Wake Forest passed from this life into eternity on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. She was born and raised in Leitchfield, KY.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Speech Communications from Western Kentucky University and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Kentucky. It was through her love for missions and for Spanish-speaking people that she first met her husband, Amaury Santos on a mission trip, while assisting church leaders in the Dominican Republic. After marriage, they began serving Hispanic congregations in South and Central Florida before moving to North Carolina.

While in Florida, she taught at Palm Beach State College, worked in campus ministries at Palm Beach Atlantic University and directed children’s ministries while serving local churches. After moving to North Carolina, she became actively involved in homeschooling and was a director of the Classical Conversation homeschool network in Wake County. She was well-loved by all the families in the group because of her kind, nurturing heart and her commitment to excellence in education.

Stephanie’s faith was a central part of her life. She lived out her commitment to Christ by discipling her boys and modeling the gospel for them. Her love for Nathan, Anthony and Noah led her to regularly help them see God at work in nature, sports, in Scripture memorization, and in cultural experiences with extended family and numerous friends. She loved her husband deeply and joined him in ministry with many English and Spanish speaking churches. Her service in the Kingdom of God resulted in countless lives finding peace, hope and comfort through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Her faith has been described as radiant and her love for others was a tangible expression of the love of Christ Jesus for the world.

Stephanie is survived by her husband, Amaury A. Santos, and her three sons: Nathan, Anthony and Noah of the home. She is also survived by her mother Flo Mashburn of Litchfield, Kentucky, a sister Debbie Higdon of Litchfield, KY, a brother Gary Mashburn of Litchfield, KY, a sister Pam Lippe of Elizabethtown, KY and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, James B. Mashburn. Stephanie was also beloved by her husband’s family in the Dominican Republic and the many Spanish-speaking families with whom she and Amaury were involved in ministry through the years.
